William Hardie (archbishop of the West Indies)

The Most Rev William George Hardie, CBE〔(London Gazette )〕 (1878 – 21 February 1950) was a long serving Anglican Bishop of Jamaica from 1931 until 1949; and for the last four of that time Archbishop of the West Indies.
He was born in 1878 and educated at Giggleswick School“Who was Who” 1897–2007 London, A & C Black, 2007 ISBN 978-0-19-954087-7〕 and Emmanuel College, Cambridge and ordained in 1902.〔Crockford's Clerical Directory1940–41 Oxford, OUP,1941〕 His first posts were curacies at Holy Trinity Church, Cambridge〔(Church website (1) )〕 and then Christ Church, Greenwich.〔(Church website (2) )〕 Later he held incumbencies at Holy Trinity, Swansea,〔(Genuki )〕 St John’s, Lowestoft〔(Now demolished )〕 and St Luke’s, Finchley.〔(Church website (3) )〕 In 1928 he was appointed Assistant Bishop〔(National Archives )〕 of Jamaica〔''New Assistant Bishop Of Jamaica'' The Times Saturday, 31 Dec 1927; pg. 10; Issue 44778; col E〕 before promotion to be its Diocesan three years later.〔New ''Bishop Of Jamaica'' The Times Thursday, 21 May 1931; pg. 13; Issue 45828; col F〕 He died on 21 February 1950.
